Inside the Classroom

Taking a closer look at what students have been working on.

Let’s break it down.

1st Hour – Business Communications    

  • Participated in learning style assessments
  • Worked on goal setting
  • Learned about the decision-making process
  • Discussed human relations and life skills
  • Worked on elevator speeches
  • Explored the world of work
  • Talked about career exploration and all the career options available
  • Watched Ted Talk videos and held class discussions to review the material presented
    • The Power of Communication
    • Communication for Success
  • Finished up unit 1 and took test
  • Starting to work on resumes and business writing


2nd Hour – Family Studies

  • Learned about functions of a family
  • Talked about values and ranked them of importance
  • Completed a project that showed off their families
  • Watched the movie “Yours, Mine and Ours and discussed the different family types and structures
  • Worked out different family scenarios and how each should be handled.
  • Solved a variety of parenting scenarios and talked about how each situation should be handled.
  • Watched a couple episodes of SuperNanny and discussed what went well and what didn’t go so well. Figured out better ways of solving bad situations.  
  • Finished up unit 1 and took test
  • Starting the next unit of Prenatal Care and Childbirth.

 

3rd, 6th, 7th Hours – 7th Grade Computer Applications

  • Students start each week with a list of 10 computer terms to type and review during the week. On Friday’s students will take a quiz over those same terms.
  • Students participated in an Internet scavenger hunt to familiarize themselves with the computer, Microsoft applications and the school’s website.
  • Students have been working on various Word and Excel lessons to better demonstrate hands on experience for each application. Preparing them for future courses and workplace readiness.
  • The classes have developed a projected to showcase themselves and help the teacher get to know the students.

 

5th Hour – Career Connections/ School to Career

  • Completed learning style assessments
  • Worked on goal setting
  • Students participated in a self-assessment to learn more about their interests
  • Learned about the decision-making process
  • Looked into career exploration and all the career options available
  • Completed a career interest survey
  • Discussed college planning
  • Talked about higher education and comparing different colleges
  • Reviewed the proper workplace behaviors
