Focusing on the FACS and Other Important Items -- Part IV

Part IV -- Life and Career Planning Students

October 16, 2024

Finally, the Life and Career Planning students have been immersed in exploring and connecting career paths in the hopes that they find a springboard to an area of interest for post secondary life!  We have been diligently testing, career researching, and becoming familiar with skills they need to make career plan projects.  The highlights of this area of interest has been figuring out if they are “left brain” or “right brain”.  Meaning were they creative or analytical… there were some surprises; but most importantly they were able to resonate with the process and have a greater understanding of how and why some things truly click for them.  Another highlight came from watching a documentary called “One Week Job.”  It tracks a year in the life of Sean Aiken, a native to the Vancouver, BC area who when he graduated from high school was uncertain about what he wanted to do.  He embarked on a journey of working a job for a week and then moved onto another job.   His journey led to many adventures in Canada before he made his way into the United States.  As his story became known, many people provided him with jobs to work for a week, sponsored his journey with hotel rooms, housing or funds.

As tough as it was, when the year was finished he found that he had a true and genuine passion for 3 areas one of which is a teaching/coaching type of role.  Currently he is providing programs and speaking to young adults and coaching them to find their passion.

We are working hard to explore various Career Techniical Education (CTE) within the Kansas Center for Career Technical Education (KCCTE) Career Paths to ensure that the students have a complete understanding of the various careers that they can go into following their high school education. Kansas has many areas of interest that include "hands-on" experience for students. Here at EJSHS, we like to showcase our agricultural courses and FFA, welding, wood working, culinary arts, photography and visual arts, business and so much more!
