Geometry Project - Greenwood County High School
April 13, 2025
The Geometry classes were recently given the task of finding a location for a hypothetical school. The scenario was that Eureka, Hamilton, and Madison had decided to consolidate into one new Greenwood County High School. The problem was, the three towns would not cooperate and insisted the school be equidistant from all three towns. Using an online geometry application called Geogebra, they found the location. First they uploaded a map of the area. Then they drew segments to connect the towns. Lastly, they constructed the perpendicular bisectors of the segments. The intersection of the perpendicular bisectors is called the circumcenter and is equidistant from the vertices of a triangle, or in this case, equidistant from the three towns. It turns out that the location isn't practical since it's northwest of Cassoday and would be a long drive for all the students.
