Vacation Destination Tour Project

Exploring the World
Planning a vacation may sound like a fun daydream, but for students in Mr. Hughes’s computer applications classes, it’s a hands-on learning experience. As part of their Vacation Destination Tour Project, students are researching and outlining the costs, activities, and logistics of a dream vacation. Students will be bringing their dream vacation to life through detailed PowerPoint presentations.
The project begins with students selecting a destination of their choice. Whether it’s a beach getaway in the Caribbean, a cultural adventure through Europe, or an action-packed city escape, students dive into the details of planning an actual trip.
To create a realistic and thorough itinerary, students research: Transportation costs: Flights, trains, or local travel expenses. Accommodation options: Hotels, lodges, or vacation rentals. Daily food budgets: Dining experiences, local cuisine, and estimated meal costs. Attractions and activities: Popular tours, museums, or excursions and even souvenirs.
After collecting and organizing their research, students transform their findings into PowerPoint presentations using the skills they’ve learned in class. Each presentation includes: A destination overview with images and maps. A detailed cost breakdown using tables or charts. A day-by-day itinerary highlighting activities and expenses. Tips on what to expect during the trip, such as local customs or travel tips. Students apply their data visualization skills by creating graphs, using transitions, and incorporating multimedia elements to make their presentations visually engaging.
While the project is travel-themed, it goes far beyond vacation planning. It teaches students: budgeting and financial literacy: estimating costs and managing expenses. research and analytical skills: gathering and comparing information. Technology proficiency: Using PowerPoint features to create professional presentations. Creative storytelling: Presenting their dream vacations in a captivating and organized way.
The project will showcase where students will share their vacation plans, explain their budgeting strategies, and highlight what they learned. This is an opportunity for them to enhance their ability to combine research and technology.
The Vacation Destination Tour Project not only gives students a chance to explore the world through research but also equips them with practical skills they can use in future academic and professional settings. By combining creativity, financial planning, and technical skills, students gain a valuable hands-on experience that makes learning both fun and meaningful.
