- Wow! What a great start to the school year. In the Nurse’s office, we have been seeing students for injuries and illnesses. We have gotten a good start on our required hearing and vision screenings. As we get deeper into fall and into winter, we are starting to see an increase in illnesses. We have been seeing students with Strep throat, Mycoplasma Pneumonia (walking pneumonia) and Covid. Strep throat is an illness that is characterized by a sore throat, red swollen tonsils, sometimes white patches on the tonsils, small red dots to back roof of mouth/entrance to throat, elevation in temperature and swollen lymph nodes along jaw and neck. Mycoplasma pneumonia is a respiratory illness characterized by an elevation in temperature, headache, dry frequent cough, sore throat, feelings of tiredness, shortness of breath, chills and body aches. Covid is characterized by body aches, headache, sore throat, runny stuffy nose, diarrhea and possible loss of appetite. We are requiring students who have a temperature greater than 100.0 to be 24 hours fever free without the use of medications such as Tylenol (acetaminophen) or Motrin (Advil, ibuprofen). We do offer Covid tests for anyone interested and if anyone would like any for home use, please let us know and we can send some home.
- Looking to the future… We will continue to do the required hearing and vision screenings. We also have our annual dental screenings in January (this is a brief look in mouths to see any abnormalities, NO dental work is done this day). This screening is an OPT OUT screening which means every student in the district is screened UNLESS an opt out form is returned to the school nurse’s office. These forms will go home with students in the elementary building in December and for students at the Jr/Sr High school, forms will go home with grade cards. There will also be forms available in the offices of each building for pick up.
