Periodic Table Unit in Chemistry
October 26, 2017
Mrs. Thornton's Chemistry classes have been studying the periodic table in class. We have learned how to read the periodic table, some trends on the table, how elements bond, how electrons behave to form bonds, and the history of the discovery of the atom. While learning about how the atom behaves, the students enjoyed playing Periodic Table Battleship. To get a "hit" on their partner's choices, they had to state the correct electron configuration of the chosen elements. They also made molecules with model sets to observe how atoms bond together. These two activities have been favorites the last couple years and the students seem to understand this abstract material much better after these activities.
