Beginning of Year Happenings in 4th Grade

September is here and already half over! The 4th grade class has had a busy first few weeks of school.
Academics
Phonics- Our Phonics curriculum, Really Great Reading, is well under way. We’ve been working with digraphs, trigraphs, and 3-sound blends.
Reading- Recently, we’ve been working on a variety of comprehension skills: Central Idea, Author’s Purpose, Point of View, Characters, Literary Elements, Theme, Text & Graphic Features, and Text Structure.
English- We’ve been busy working on Daily Language Instruction, our English curriculum. DLI is a resource that specifically targets writing conventions.
We have recently begun our All About Me writing. Students are enjoying learning about each other’s hobbies and interests.
Math- We are currently in Module 1 of Eureka Math2, working on place value concepts for addition and subtraction.
Science/S.S.- We are nearing the end of our Plant and Animal Structure/Function units. We will soon begin Social Studies, starting with Discovering the Social Sciences.
