Tornado Services

February 13, 2024

Tornado Services: one may wonder what is entailed within the name. At face value, when looking at the name alone, one may think it has something to do with the weather, or coincide with a school event as Eureka's mascot is a tornado. However, Tornado Services is so much more. Tornado Services is a vocational opportunity for students within the special education environment that allows students to put into practice social skills, vocational skills, social- emotional skills, and integrate them into the 'real world' environment outside of the classroom. Students assist with building recycling, mail route within the district, copy center, laundry, custodial assistance, and deliveries/ pickups within the community. Tornado Services allows student's opportunities to acquire skills that will not only benefit them now while they are in JH/ HS, but also gain skills they will utilize for a life time. "The bridge between my opportunities and my abilities are the my skills." Each student is unique, requiring different levels of support in order to access school and town community. Building upon the students strengths and weaknesses allows all students to be actively integrated into their daily environments successfully.  Tornado Services sets a positive foundation for vocational skills, and gives the students an opportunity to be as independent as they are able to be with/ without support according to each individual's needs. Eureka is such an amazing community; one that has a strong foundation of inclusion and acceptance.
