Eureka 7th graders have begun working on their social studies state assessments.  Unlike the assessments in other content areas, the social studies assessment is classroom-based.  The students create a project to demonstrate mastery of various standards in the social studies curriculum.  Eureka 7th graders are creating a presentation using either PowerPoint or google slides to discuss the reasoning behind the decision by early pioneers to migrate to the West along the Oregon Trail.

Students began this process by "loading their wagons" with appropriate amounts of food and equipment necessary to survive the trip.  At various times throughout the semester, some class time is used to deal with the emergencies that inevitably occur.  The presentation students complete for the assessment measures both the reasons for going to Oregon and the reasons for staying behind in light of these emergencies.  Students will complete these presentations before Spring Break.
