Preschool has been busy! We've celebrated Dr. Seuss' birthday, St. Patrick's Day, and Easter! We have also almost learned all of our letters and numbers to 20, and had Spring Parent/Teacher Conferences right after spring break. In preparation for our student led conferences, our 6th grade Tornado Buddy's came into our classroom to help students prepare by going through their Leadership Notebooks with them, as well as their Alphabet Handprint/Craft Books that they would be sharing with their parents at conferences.
For Dr. Seuss' birthday, we participated in different dress up days and activities. On Wacky Wednesday, students even got to color under their desks! They all thought that was pretty "wacky". For Easter, students enjoyed creating various crafts, a plastic egg stacking challenge with playdoh, and an Easter egg hunt on our playground where they all found eggs filled with candy and various prizes such as sunglasses day, hat day, stinky feet day (no shoes), or snack day. They all had a great time!
In October, we began a science experiment known as "Pumpkin Jack". We read the story "Pumpkin Jack" by Will Hubbell, and then began our own experiment. We placed our pumpkin in a sealed container and watched it go through all the phases of decomposition through the winter. Now, our pumpkin is fully decomposed and new sprouts have began to grow. Students are now anxiously awaiting new pumpkins to begin growing, too. In conclusion, our experiment was successful.
The month of April and May are going to be busy! On Friday, April 19th, preschool and early childhood will have Family Fun Day! Morning class Family Fun Day will begin at 10:15 and afternoon class Family Fun Day will begin at 2:15. We are looking forward to this special time together with our students and their families. Kindergarten Round Up for students entering Kindergarten next school year will be on Wednesday, May 1st, from 9:00 - 11:00. Our end of the year field trip to the Emporia Zoo and park will be on Thursday, May 9th. We will leave school at 8:30 and return by the end of school that day.
